Caspar is now OFFICIALLY a ghost! (Though his friendliness factor may remain in dispute)

Former Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger died today at the age of 88 of high fever and pneumonia brought on by old age, according to his obituary. Let's face it, this obit has been written for a long time, with a fill-in-the-blanks cause of death just waiting to be pencilled in.

I wonder if the Iran-Contra scandal will be brought up at the pearly gates?

Wednesday correctly predicted this passing, and for her troubles, gets 12 points. (see scoring page for updates)

WHAMMY! Tomarken's Luck Pressed Beyond Limit

For those of you who remember the old game show Press Your Luck, Peter Tomarken was the clean-cut All-American host who ran a tight ship. Season after season, Peter had to endure the antics of those incorrigible show-stealing Whammies.

Sadly, Peter, 63, and his wife Kathleen died today in a plane crash in Santa Monica Bay.

The Game Show Network plans to air a Press Your Luck marathon this coming Sunday as a tribute. Nobody at DW2K6 got Big Bucks for predicting this accident.

Miss Deaf DEAD Texas: Killed By Train

Hard to believe but true.

CNN's coverage tells the sad story of Tara Rose McAvoy, 18.

It just goes to show that even crazy hotness will not save you from my clutches.

I'm wondering if this wasn't a suicide, as you'd think a deaf woman would feel a TRAIN coming?

Tara's tragic passing was not eligible to be chosen for DWK26.

Actress Maureen Stapleton dead at 80

I was a huge fan of Maureen Stapleton's portrayal of the sexually liberated Ma Kelley in the mob spoof classic Johnny Dangerously. Here's a classic sound clip from the movie.

She also played a pretty decent Grandma in one of Wednesday's favorite guilty pleasure movies, Addicted to Love.

When not being confused with Gene Stapleton (of All in the Family fame), Maureen actually had a hell of a career. Nobody at DW2K6 foresaw this passing.

MLB HOF Kirby Puckett dies from complications of a stroke: age 45

Hard to frigging believe. This guy could theoretically still be playing (like say, Julio Franco) but instead, Kirby passed away today after having a stroke over the weekend. Obituary courtesy of the New York Times.

Puckett was a guy who not a lot of people thought looked like a major leaguer, but he was a great all-around player during my high school and college years, playing and often beating the Indians, all the while remaining a guy who was fun to watch. He was so fun to watch because you could tell that he was out there having a frigging blast, almost as though he was one of us who got to play for an MLB team for a week. It had to be supremely frustrating to have his fantastic career cut short by an eye problem. Despite his early exit, Puckett was a first-ballot Hall of Fame selection in 2001.

The dude had some problems in the past couple of years, both health concerns and trouble with the law, which was sad to see. That's not for me to judge, because I don't know the details. I just know he was one of my favorite players to not play for the Tribe.

It's a damn shame. Nobody predicted this, I don't think...I didn't even check the lists yet.
